Because it was an anonymous competition, the identity of the teams Southwestern competed against and defeated was not disclosed. However, over 20 teams from 17 law schools around the country participated, including the University of Richmond who ultimately took first place.
The team received the competition material, a medical malpractice case, on September 8 and had approximately five weeks to prepare, practicing three days a week for four hours a day on average with their coaches, Torsten Bassell '07, Kunal Jain '13, Mackenzie Brown '13, and Shiraz Khalid '10, as well as additional practice on their own time.

"Our team was very confident in our ability as advocates, but most of all we tried our very best and left it all in the courtroom when competing," Samouhi explained. "As a team, we had fun with the competition. Our demeanor and attitude was what set us apart from other teams. When they were aggressive and at times frustrated, we were calm and collected, regardless of the circumstances. Also, we supported each other day in and day out and pushed each other to be the best that we could be."
